Kangol

Kangol was founded in England in 1938 by Jacques Spreiregen, a Polish entrepreneur of Jewish origin. The name derives from the combination of knitting, ANGora, and wOOL, the materials historically used in production. During World War II, Kangol became an official supplier of berets for the British army, earning a solid reputation for quality. In the 1980s, the famous Kangol bucket hat entered hip-hop culture, worn by artists like LL Cool J and Run-DMC. It became a symbol of New York streetwear, far beyond its military and sporty origins.

The kangaroo logo, adopted in 1983, originated from a misunderstanding: many American customers would ask for "that hat with the kangaroo."
