Anonymous Ism was founded in Japan in 2002 by Hirotsugu Yoshimura. Before launching his own brand, he worked for years as a third-party manufacturer for some of the country's most exclusive brands.

The brand builds its identity around vintage knitting machines from the 1970s. These are used to create socks with intricate patterns and artisanal craftsmanship, difficult to replicate on an industrial scale.
